Professional ExperienceHave two separate positions within the organisation, 2 days a week in the "Server and Operations Team" and 3 days a week as a Senior ICT Officer in the Environmental Services Group. Varied tasks within the two roles from PC and server support, to consultancy and project based roles. Responsible for Asset Management system, and involved with Citrix and Terminal Services systems. Partial responsibility for Environmental Services intranet development and support. Advising both departments on a range of topics such as Exchange Server configuration, Windows server and client management, hardware configuration, disaster recovery & security, performance improvements, etc. The IT environment / infrastructure is much more complicated here due to large number of sites, servers, PC's and users.
Set up network of approximately 400 PC's, 770 users, 10 NT 4.0 Servers, 2 Sun Solaris Servers. Installed MS Internet Information Server 4 and started development of Company Intranet site. Implemented e-mail using MS Exchange Server 5.0, later upgrading to 5.5. Set up Netscape Proxy Server 3.5 on NT Server, later replacing it with MS Proxy 2.0. Installed hubs, routing switch, and routers, and dealt with all aspects of network maintenance. Set up remote access for users of laptops. Responsible for evaluation, purchase, licensing, installation and support of software and hardware, and supervised Helpdesk function. Documented infrastructure and procedures for IT Department, as well as drafting Corporate IT Policy. Was responsible for 2 support staff.
Installed, and administrated a 65 PC, 76 user, multi-site network running Windows NT 4.0 Server & Workstation, Windows 95 and Windows 3.11 Workstations. E-mail implemented with Microsoft Exchange Server and Client v 4.0. Integrated existing NetWare and AS36 mainframe systems with NT 4.0, and migrated NetWare environment to NT 4.0. Set up modem access for use by touring staff. Advised on purchase of CAD and other software, and hardware. Produced training material for off-site staff. Instigated user groups to discuss requirements and make recommendations on use of Information Technology.
Worked as an IT Assistant / Systems Analyst. Tasks included user set-up, hardware and software installation, maintenance and user training. Produced the Computer Department Procedures Manual. Also completed Systems Analysis projects for management, producing and presenting Board Level reports and recommendations.
Prior to the above experience of working in an I.T. environment, worked as an Outdoor Pursuits Instructor in the field of mountaineering, climbing and Duke of Edinburgh's Award. Worked for National Westminster Bank PLC for 3 years before going to College. Also worked for Bass Wales and West, and served with the Territorial Army for 10 years.

Interests and HobbiesAm keen on mountaineering and have walked and climbed in the Himalayas, Africa, the Alps and Britain. Have enjoyed rock climbing for many years and hold leadership and supervisory qualifications in mountaineering and rock climbing. Am also keen on kayaking and am on committee of local canoe club.
Enjoy travelling and have visited countries all round the world, as well extensive travel throughout Britain.
Enthusiastic about photography, particularly landscape and mountaineering. Enjoy holding slide shows for local climbing club, and for friends.
