Efficacy refers to how well a source produces visible light. It is determined by effective or sufficient level of visibility created from a light source in a particular space. Lumen per watt (lm/w) is used to measure luminous efficacy of a light source. It quantifies the rate of energy transfer in an electrical source where watt is the energy and lumen is the amount of light produced from that energy. First, not all LEDs are dimmable. In order to allow dimming, the driver must be designed accordingly. Second, the right type of dimmer needs to be bought for the luminaire. Most retail stores now carry dimmers specifically designed for LED bulbs. Please note, if you purchase a non-dimmable LED bulb and try to dim it, it will cause the bulb to fail and also void the warranty.
